Tips
- Arrive Early
Early birds catch the best tables and avoid the wait. - In a Hurry?
You're in the wrong place. Mo's hardworking staff is used to catering to a crowd that lingers, so sit back and enjoy that second cup of joe.
Locals flip over flapjacks at this no-frills tribute to home cooking.ContributorThe Scene
The antidote to hifalutin see-and-be-seen eateries, Mo's old-fashioned counter attracts artists, business types, college students and wanderers to its swivel seats. The dinerlike atmosphere gets a funky feel from the robotlike sculptures (made locally from recycled trash) hanging above the cozy booths.
The Food
Coming here and not ordering pancakes is like skipping steak at Morton's. Made with fresh buttermilk, wheat flour and wheat germ, Mo's flavorful flapjacks can be fixed up with your choice of cranberries, strawberries, pineapple, blueberries, chocolate chips and more. The ample-sized jacks droop off the edges of the plate, so even the solo serving (one pancake) can be enough for moderate appetites. Passing on the pancakes? Try spicy, cheddar-topped huevos rancheros or Mo's classic omelet packed with fresh spinach, mushrooms and cheese instead. The sizzling grill even turns out burgers and club sandwiches.
What's all the hype about?
ctreynardI'm not sure what the hype is about...sure, it's cheap, but so what? I guess it depends if you're happy with "Friendly's" caliber or not. The home fries were nothing to write home about, and the omelette (jambalya) was ok, but nothing special. Coffee is extremely weak. One reviewer mentioned that portions are HUGE, can't fit on the plates...is it possible that it's due to small plates? Yep.
On the plus side, the atmosphere was cute.
If you make it to Northampton, MA, Sylvester's still reigns supreme...make sure to know that it'll be a wait, especially on weekends.
Pros:Pros: Cheap as hell, interesting atmosphere
Cons:Small plates (not very user-friendly!), why go out if it's not yummy?!
Mo that was Good
RajackGood overall rating. The food was wonderful. Substantial portions (pancakes, French Toast, and Home fries) for the hungry man. Prices were reasonable. A couple of suggestions; due to the number of tables in the dining area get there early for your pick of the best table. For those people who are often cold bring a sweater. If youre not very hungry order smaller sizes. I ordered a large stack pancakes (3) and the pancakes filled the plate completely the fries and eggs had to be placed on another plate and was filled completely. You will definitely enjoy the food and prices of this delightful neighborhood restaurant.
Pros:Parking, Food, Portions
Cons:Ambiance
Ragin' Cajun!!! nuff said!
tmadarThe Rajun' Cajun omlette is the best breakfast food I have ever had! They also make a Rajin' Cajun Burger, whick is HUGE! The homefries are spicy, perfectly seasoned and plentiful. And you have to get a side of the Corned Beef (or Turkey if they have it) Hash. They add onions, celery and peppers to basic hash to really dress it up. The pancakes and french toast are amazing as well. I just can't say enough good things about this place. GO NOW!!!
Pros:Food, Value
Cons:Coffee is so-so, limited parking, wait for tables
mmm...breakfast
nishdogFood here is great...best home fries around...ragin' cajun omelettes are incredible. Huevos rancheros...Papa Mo's with ample portions of eggs/choice of meat/homefries. And a large stack of pancakes will never leave you hungry...I'm making myself hungry just thinking about it...
Pros:great food, affordable
Cons:can get crowded
The Breakfast of Champions!
gamingoddessDon't let the small nondescrepit building fool you, Mo's Midtown is the epitome of breakfast entree restaurants. From fluffy mouthwatering pancakes, to skillets that sizzle and smell better than your mom's cooking, after trying the exquisite delights here you will realize why this diner has been awarded on the top of Hartford Courant's Awards. Get ready for the long lines in the morning from both the curious and the frequent customers; fortunately, the wait is worth it in the end. Compared chains such as IHOP and Denny's, Mo's Downtown blasts the competition with its consistency in great service, food, and especially getting "your money's worth". A visit to Hartford is not a real one without a stop at Mo's!
Pros:Inexpensive, Plenty of Food, Great Workers
Cons:Long Lines, No Parking, Crowded Area
