For non-vegans, the idea of snacking on Italian food sans cheese or meat can sound a lot like chewing on twigs and dirt. But the fare at Allston’s Peace o’ Pie gives regular eaters and tree-huggers a reason to rejoice. Pizzas and calzones have a crispy crust and are topped with a tomato sauce that is sweet and fresh. Grab a signature pie or build your own, with toppings ranging from sun-dried tomatoes and zucchini to smoked tempeh and apple sage “sausage.” On top of being completely animal-free, almost everything on the menu is organic (produce, sauces and dough), and gluten-free crusts are available on Thursdays. A bar made from recycled paper and 100-percent recyclable/compostable/biodegradable take-out containers and utensils set the earthy tone at this offbeat eatery.
