Recycling business provides door-to-door service to Iowa apartment dwellers
Mitrisin was working as a waitress before she came up with the idea for her company, and thus far, her business has been booming. For only $10 per month, the service will come pick up recyclables every other week and is meant to cater to apartment dwellers.
"I had a lot of friends that wanted to do the right thing but they're so busy and there's all these excuses of why they were not taking their hoards of recycling," Mitrisin told the news source. "More people just kept coming up and wanting to be a part of it and signing up and being extremely grateful that they didn't have to lug all their recycling to the drop off centers."
Recycle Me Iowa has since expanded to serve small businesses and municipal events, and has received a majority of its funding from the Department of Natural Resources and the Metro Waste Authority. The business seems to be an unabashed success, and it could be a viable way for communities without a centralized recycling program to increase its recycling rates and work to create a greener and more sustainable environment for its residents.
