Glad Products Company to help improve recycling rates at NCAA games this fall.
The Glad Products Company, maker of everything from plastic bags, containers and other home products, has partnered with the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) to help reduce the amount of waste that ends up in local landfills from college football games this fall. According to the Sacramento Bee, these games produce somewhere between 50 and 100 tons of unneeded waste each weekend, so the two organizations are doing their part to streamline the recycling process in college stadiums and create a more sustainable environment for sporting events.
Glad will be providing a series of grants to colleges and universities that are members of the AASHE, and this will be used to improve public education campaigns, increase recycling receptacles at the stadiums and put a focus on the waste that is produced while tailgating. This initiative continues the environmental work that Glad has done with Keep America Beautiful (KAB) and other sustainable organizations that strive to make a green impact in their communities.
"We know that waste reduction isn't a problem that can be solved overnight, and we're committed to supporting new waste diversion efforts and educating consumers on small steps they can take against waste that make a lasting impact," Cheryl Hagedorn, brand manager for The Glad Products Company, told the news source.
To showcase its commitment to sustainability, The Glad Products Company will be on-hand for the October 29 home game for University of Southern California to showcase waste reduction and diversion techniques to tailgaters. Close to 80,000 fans are expected to attend the game, which provides the ideal opportunity to make an impact to help fans become a bit more green on game day and in the years to come.
